Description
The hemostatic sponge SCROFALON absorbs approximately 40-50 times, is not soluble in water and easily adheres to the bleeding site. The uniform porosity guarantees a favorable hemostasis. When it is implanted, complete absorption takes place in 3-4 weeks. The SCROFALON hemostatic sponge is sterile, resorbable, non-toxic, non-allergenic, non-immunogenic, non-pyrogenic and meets the biocompatibility requirements according to the applicable EN ISO 10993 standards. The size of the sponge is 10 x 10 x 10 mm. The set contains 10 pieces. SCROFALON is a compressed surgical haemostatic sponge, manufactured from highly purified neutral gelatin material exclusively from porcine origins for use in various surgical procedures. Where traditional hemostasis is difficult or impractical and use of other non-absorbable material is undesirable. Gelatin is a substantially pure protein food ingredient, obtained by the thermal denaturation of collagen, which are the structural mainstay and most common protein in the animal kingdom. Gelatin sponges have been used in clinical practice as hemostats for more than 50 years and been probe to be effective and safe as other types of hemostats. SCROFALON Dental: It is indicated for adjunctive use in dental applications to assist in the control of bleeding in exodontias and oral surgery. It may be used to help achieve hemostasis after single or multiple tooth extraction alveoloplasty, gingival hemorrhage, impactions, biopsies and other procedures in the oral cavity. It assists in the obliteration of dead space created by extraction of teeth, root amputations, removal of cysts, tumors and impacted teeth. It can also be used for control of bleeding during otolaryngological surgical procedures. It may also be used in areas where the small size of the sponge is an advantage, for example epistaxis etc. In extraction sites, before placing Dental, re-examine the socket thoroughly to remove all granulation tissue and bone debris. Apply a dry sponge with or without pressure depending on the amount of bleeding, making sure that the socket does not dry out. It is recommended to use Dental in a dry form, for ease of application and better handling characteristics. Other Intraoral applications include use of Dental for increasing palatal thickness, as a Periapical Barrier for Retrograde/Orthograde tooth fillings e.g. Use of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MTA) in apexification procedures, management of open apex etc.
