It’s a synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of Polyglycolic Acid. The sutures are coated with polycaprolactone and calcium sterate that has been found to be non-antigenic and non-pyrogenic, eliciting only slight tissue reaction during absorption. The sutures are available either undyed or dyed (D and C Violet No. 2, Color index number: 60725) form. Is available in a range of gauze sizes and lengths, attached to standard stainless steel needles of varying types and sizes. They are generally used for soft tissue approximation, in pediatric cardiovascular surgery, microsurgery and in ophthalmic surgery. Complete absorption takes place between 180-220 days. Instructions of use: The selection of suture for implantation depends on patient’s condition, surgical experience, surgical technique and wound size. The suture initially elicits a minimal inflammatory reaction in tissues followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue. The suture gradually losses tensile strength and is finally absorbed by hydrolytic process. During hydrolysis, the polymer glycolic acid degrades and is subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body. Significant tensile strength i.e. 70%-80% of the original is retained until initial 14 days and 50% of the original is retained until 21 days. There is a subsequent loss between four to five weeks post implantation. Complete absorption usually takes place between 60 and 90 days.
