Polyglycolic acid suture, resorbable 75cm, round needle 1/2, 30 mm, USP 0, 12 pieces/ box Polyglycolic acid suture is intended for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in plastic and ophthalmological procedures, but not for use in cardiovascular and neurological tissues. The polyglycolic acid suture is a braided, synthetic and sterile multifilament absorbable surgical suture, prepared from 100% glycolide homopolymers. The suture is colored with D&C Violet no. 2 (in accordance with the regulations of the US Federal Code). The suture is also available in uncolored form. For additional lubrication, smooth passage through tissue and easy knot tying, it is coated with a mixture of polycaprolactone and calcium stearate. It was found that the POLYGLYCOLIC ACID suture is not antigenic, it is not pyrogenic and causes only a slight tissue reaction during the absorption process. The composition of the dyed version of the polyglycolic acid suture is 96.1% - 99.2% polyglycolic acid, 0.4% - 2.2% polycaprolactone, 0.2% - 1.5% calcium stearate and < 0.2% of D&C Violet no. 2. The composition of the undyed version of the polyglycolic acid suture is 96.3% - 99.4% polyglycolic acid, 0.4% - 2.2% polycaprolactone and 0.2% - 1.5% calcium stearate . The product complies with the requirements established by the European Pharmacopoeia (E.P) for sterile and absorbable synthetic absorbable braided sutures and by the United States Pharmacopoeia (U.S.P) for absorbable (synthetic) surgical suture. Approximate percentage of initial resistance remaining 14 days - 82% 21 days - 56% 28 days - 20% The absorption of the suture with polyglycolic acid essentially ends in about 90 days.
