Description
The synthetic suture, woven and covered in the middle, made of polyglycolic acid, degrades by hydrolysis and ensures a predictable and reliable absorption. MEGASORB suture is coated with a mixture of Caprolactone and Calcium Stearate. It is painted purple by an FDA-approved color additive. It is also available in a null version.
During hydrolysis, glycolic polymer degrades and is subsequently absorbed and metabolized by the body. For 14 days the tensiles maintain their resistance in a proportion of 70-80%, then at 21 days the resistance is 50% compared to the initial one. There is a subsequent loss of tensile strength between 4 and 5 weeks after implantation. Complete absorption of the suture usually takes place between 60 and 90 days.
Applications: Sutures are intended for use in the approximation and / or ligation of soft tissues, including use in ophthalmic surgery.
