The purpose of the bleaching process is to remove the dark-colored lignin residues from the pulp so that the pulp is of high quality. To protect the environment and for quality assurance, the molecular chlorine and the hypochlorite have been replaced with other chemical substances such as oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, and ozone.
