The task of choosing the right scalpel and size rests with the surgeon who has the necessary expertise.

  • Blade #10 is a blade commonly used for surgical procedures. It is used to make large incisions through the skin and subcutaneous tissues.
  • The #10 and #15 blades are all curved and are used to make incisions. The sharpest area of these blades is the tip of the blade's curvature. This is the place on the blade that is used to make the incision.
  • The #15 blade is the smallest of these curved blades and can be used for small animal surgery where short and precise incisions are required. It can also be used to remove skin lesions, perform an organ biopsy or in neurological procedures that require greater finesse and accuracy.
  • The #11 blade is a triangular blade with a sharp tip, also called an incision blade. It is used for cardiology, orthopedics, reparative plastic surgery, where short, precise cuts are required. Often, these cuts are made in shallow or deep areas. This scalpel can be used, for example, to insert chest tubes or drains, or to make a cut in a blood vessel where you need to insert a catheter. They can also be used in the dental field for dental surgery procedures, gingival interventions or even extractions.
